Batch of 1988 Reunion on 01 May 2009

Hope still not too late blogging this topic.

I was invited by Low Jan Po, who I had never known him in high school, but fatefully met him in Facebook, to attend their 16th year classmate gathering.

I was very excited, and also worried that I might not know anyone there, even the organizers I don't know either. So, I quickly sent a message to Keff Chan Yee Jane, asked if she was interested, she immediately promised me to go. Then I quickly replied to Low Jan Po telling him that me and Keff would join.

When the day came, I was in 1 Utama in the afternoon watching movie there with friends, and waited for Keff to call me and told me what time she would come. I waited till around 7pm, Keff still didn't call me, but Jim Lee Kok Wai called me asking if I would go. I said I waited for Keff then went together. At around 8pm, She still didn't call me, I guessed she wouldn't come anymore, but I still called her and tried my luck. She replied me she totally forgot the gathering and she was in Puchong at that moment, so wouldn't be able to go. I was thinking fine, I still have another backup, Jim Lee. I quickly called him, told him that I was on my way there, and he said he was around that area also, would reach there very fast.

After reached the restaurant, I called Jim again, and he told me he was still echoing his songs in karaoke. I was feeling like being abandoned. I really didn't know what to do, went alone or back home. After considering for a while, I chose to make "my head harder" and went in to the restaurant.

When I stepped down from the car, I first saw Jeffery Ong(王林河) smoking outside alone, so I immediately joined him and pretended to know him very well (haha, luckily always check FB for everybody's latest news). In fact, I only same class with him in the 1st year in Chong Hwa, after that, I kept dropping to the worse classes.

After socialized with Jeffery Ong, I had much confidence to walk in to the restaurant. I saw Mooi Ying(美茔), Rachael Yu(佩玲), Tin Nee(珍坭) sitting at the 1st table of my walk in direction. And I thought these people were the most familiar faces that I met since high school. So, I sat down there and chatted with them.

After a while, I was looking around and hoping that there were some other familiar faces I knew, and out of my expectation I saw Lee Kiaw Wan, my classmate in 2nd year and college mate. The reason I spotted him was because there was a reflection into my eyes, which from the gold ring of his "no name" finger. Ha ha, he has registered, finally became someone's husband. Very happy for him, and of course his wife, the ultimate life partner.

Overall, the gathering gave me a very happy moment, which I could meet the old friends for not seen in 16 years. Before ended this blog, 1 person I really like to talk about and also thank him a lot. One of the organizer, Low Jan Po. Although I only knew him that night, I really think that he is a great and friendly person.

Very looking forward for next year gathering, especially the organizers are the 2 friends I'm familiar with, Kiaw Wan and Tin Nee. I believe they will be a very good organizers, since both of them are the key persons of their inherited business.

'大掉眼镜'!

It's been exactly a month since I last blog, been quite busy with a lot of things.

First of all, of course it's because of Abigail. She really takes up a lot of my usual 'spare' time. Feeding, winding, nappy changing, playing, putting her back to sleep...then start cleaning her stuff when she is asleep. Yes, they're hard work but I quite enjoy doing them. No, I am not turning into a 'mum', I am just like all other 21st century dads!

Abigail, my wife and me went to London's Malaysian Embassy on the 20th of April. The plan was to take the earliest flight down to London, and reach the embassy before noon. Get Abigail's Malaysian birth certificate, her passport, and also to renew our passports. We were hoping to get everything done before they finish at 5pm, and then catch the next flight back to Edinburgh. Having a three months old baby away from home is quite a handful and at the same time, quite frightening! So the plan of just a day trip was perfect.

So, did the plan work out? Well, sort of.

We arrived in the embassy at around 11am. The reception gave me a big pile of forms to fill, and also a ticket with a number on it. There were no one there to help you fill in those forms, you can refer to a 'sample' which was hung on the wall. It took me more than half an hour to finish filling them and because I was too busy filling in those forms, my number passed without me noticing it!! No choice I have to let them know what happened and I was expecting them to give me a hard time and maybe a bit of 'rasuah' can solve the problem...

The guy at the counter, which I suspect is gay, was 'super' helpful! He totally understood what happened, he didn't give me a hard time and no 'rasuah' was needed, how great was that!! According to him, applicants normally get their birth certificates at 1pm and then passports at 3-4pm. Applicants usually hand in the forms and then come back in the afternoon. But, since we are doing Abigail's birth certificate and three passports, we can have everything back at...1pm!!! Wow, that's what I call 'service'. So, the forms were in just before 12pm. The three of us then went for some Nasi Lemak. It's a tiny place at the embassy with 4-5 seats. We bought two Nasi Lemak and two Teh Tarik. Half way through the meal, someone from the embassy came running, looking for us, telling us that everything was ready for pick up. Wow, not even 1pm yet, 'gold plated' service! We quickly finish those lovely Nasi Lemak and Teh Tarik, pick up everything, then head straight to London's famous China Town. Abigail's first trip to London's China Town!

I was really impressed with the level of service they provide in London's Malaysia Embassy, really, really impressed!!

Keep up the good work. Malaysia Boleh!!!

Hiya!!

Hi! It's Abigail here. This is the latest photo mummy took of me. I am 14 weeks old now and able to hold my head up in this position for...5 minutes, before I feel tired and bury my face back into the pillow. Grandma said it's good exercise for my neck and I need to do this more often.

It's spring time now in Scotland, the weather is lovely for the past couple of days. Grandma and Grandpa took me and my cousin sister out for walks around where we stay and we saw a lot of very colourful flowers and also able to hear birds singing.

It will be summer very soon, hopefully we will be able to have some barbecue parties!!

Has it really been that long since I last blog?!

Wow! Time really flies when you are occupied 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since the arrival of Abigail, everything changed in my 'smooth sailing' daily life.

Imagine this : You wake up in the middle of the night, with a bottle in one hand, and something else on the other hand which gets heavier and heavier every night. You better not fall asleep while doing this or the baby gets milk all over her face and body...which YOU have to clean up! You tried your best to stay awake until she finishes the bottle, then you start 'winding' her, hoping that she 'burps'...usually takes a good 5-10 minutes if you are lucky. Then, nappy changing time. You try to be as quick as possible, taking care not to wake her up or else it will be 'more' time putting her back to sleep...Abigail is considered a fast 'drinker' and the whole process takes about 30-45 minutes, all depends on luck. Finally, you put her back to her cot, and try to fall asleep yourself as fast as possible because the next feeding time is just a couple of hours away. The thought of 'falling asleep as fast as possible' is so stressful, you find it difficult to fall asleep...The same thing happened day after day, night after night, for the past 10 weeks. Is it worthwhile? One little smile or giggle from her makes everything worthwhile. I am willing to do it again and again and again and again...

More about tears and laughter of fatherhood in the next episode...
