China is so lucky...
Remember the recent Beijing Olympic? It made me so proud being a Chinese, especially in a foreign country like UK. Everyone I met praised the effort put in by China, the spectacular opening ceremony, and also the achievement of the Chinese athletics. But what happened after the Olympic...the international exposure of the 'poisoned' baby milk powder.
Apparently, the Chinese government knew about these so called 'poisoned' milk powder months before everything became public. The authorities were ordered to keep quiet because the Olympic was just round the corner and they can't afford to have anything going wrong during the games.
So, thousands of babies were put under life threatening risk in order for Beijing to have the greatest Olympic, ever. What kind of government would do that to the future generations of their country?! From what I learned from the papers, these milk producing companies is so big and successful that they are 'exempted' from routine checks by their country's food safety board. 'Exempted'?! Someone, somewhere has been paid a lot of money to keep quiet, and this someone must die at least 99 times before he/she can ask for forgiveness.
Why is China lucky? Well, with the current economic crisis affecting every part of the world, it seems that no one is interested in making this comparatively 'small' incident in China a big deal. But IT is a big deal!! It's babies' life we are talking about here!! In another month's time, everyone will have forgotten about this SMALL incident that happened in China...and for those who lost their babies, maybe they will receive a big sum of money, from the government, to keep their mouth shut.
I don't hate China as a country, it's just the way the people do things that pissed me off. I don't know about you but I am definitely going to boycott anything and everything made in China. It's going to be difficult but I am going to try my best!

So quiet...
So, what have you been up to recently?
As for me, I am busy trying to come up with a name for the baby. It sounds easy, but when you start looking, it's really difficult...especially when your Chinese is not good. If I am not mistaken, during my days in Chong Hwa, I failed my Chinese studies every year. It's one of my least favourite subject. Recently I borrowed two Chinese dictionaries from a friend, I am surprised that I still remember how to use them. I started looking from page one and I did find a lot of nice words I like...the only problem is these words are used by a lot of people I know! China needs to come up with some NEW words so that I can use them!
Every parent wants the best for their off-springs, and there are only so many nice and good Chinese words to go around. Parents want their children to be handsome, beautiful, clever, smart, happy, healthy...it's just so difficult.
Tried to get my parents and my parents-in-law to help out but they refused, why? Simple. They are worried that if they suggested something and I don't like it, I still use it because I don't want to offend or hurt them. How thoughtful of them...
I think I better stop moaning and start thinking...

Best music/sound I've ever heard.
During Junior Middle Three, a friend by the name of Tan Kok Sai(陈国狮) introduced me to a band called Beyond, from Hong Kong. They played the most marvelous rock music, ever! Until one of the band member died tragically while performing...
In Senior Middle Two, Celene introduced me to Arron Kwok and the Four Heavenly Kings, but I think the best is still Jacky Cheung. Some of you might disagree with me but fans from these four 'camps' still hate each other till this day!
Stopped listening to music for a while after graduating from high school and the entertaining industry wasn't really producing much quality artists. Recently read an article about a Chinese artist by the name of Sa Ding Ding (萨顶顶). Got on to Youtube and found some of her MTV...the music/sound was awesome...you guys heard of her? She even developed her own language!!
Last week, my wife was experiencing some kind of pain in her stomach. She said the pain was like someone slicing open her flesh! We went to our family doctor and he said it might be some sort of infection. He took some urine sample for testing and told us we would get the result in 2-3 days...2-3 days?! I was not ready to wait 2-3 days for the result!! The next morning, we went straight to the hospital. We spent 7 hours in the hospital doing all kinds of tests and also waiting for test results. After all the waiting, the tests came back negative, there weren't any infections! All thats left to do now is to listen to the baby's heartbeat...the doctor turn on a special listening device, put some gel on the device and started rubbing it onto my wife's stomach and...bopop,bopop,bopop...that WAS the world's best music/sound I've ever heard! It wasn't my childhood hero, it wasn't a rock band, definitely not those four Heavenly Kings, or the Chinese singer. It was the very healthy heartbeat of my unborn child!
I suddenly realised that my child's heartbeat was the best music/sound I've ever heard. And I am sure that it will also be the only music/sound I will ever want to listen to...for the next 200 years!

My dad and me.

After finishing primary school, my dad gave me two choices to choose from, for my higher educations:
- Chong Hwa Independent High School in KL
- Hin Hwa Independent High School in Klang
Deep down inside, I really wanted to go to those government high schools, just like my uncles and aunties, just like my cousin brothers and sisters, and most important of all, just like my primary school's 'buddies', they were all going to the same high school!! Both Independent high schools accepted my applications (my dad's applications to be precise!) and both offered me hostel accommodations. Unwilling, I chose option 1, Chong Hwa Independent High School.
I was in the hostel for only a year. There were happy times and also not so happy times. From second year onwards, I had to wake up 5:30 every morning to catch the first bus from Subang Jaya to Kota Raya, and then from Kota Raya to Jalan Ipoh. Those dark, cold and sleepy mornings...the routine went on for the next three years untill I was in Senior Middle Two, my dad bought me my very own transport, a Suzuki scooter! My pride and joy at that time.
High school wasn't easy for me, but, like what my dad said, I made some really good, life long friends! I am proud to say that all you guys are 'priceless' to me. A couple of days ago, I had an MSN session with a friend I knew from Junior Middle One. We were quite close back then but sort of grew apart after Junior Middle One because he stayed in the better classes while I drop back to those 'naughty' classes. The distance grew as we got older, until almost twenty years later! On our first MSN session (typing message, not webcam),he wrote : 'Hello bro, how are you doing?'. I was so shock! He refers to me as 'BRO'?! I don't know what these three alphabets meant to him but they meant the world to me. During that MSN session, we 'click' right away. We just carried on from where we left it in 1988! We covered so many topics, yet not enough, even some very personal ones, no barriers at all. What a session, it was unbelievable!
I guess this is what my dad wanted for me from day one, to make some 'real' friends, some brothers and sisters! When my dad was in high school, he spent two years in a boarding school in Kuantan. Those friends he met in Kuantan are still his best friends today, they still organise annual gatherings, and my dad attended each and everyone on them, another 'unbelievable'. I envy them from the bottom of my heart.
I hope one day we will be able to be like them. At the mean time, I guess I will have to settle for 'gathering' in this blog!
